Social Networking and Healthcare Professionals

Social Networking and Healthcare Professionals by

Where do consumers turn when they need a healthcare professional such as a doctor, dentist or chiropractor? According to an article at cnet.com, the answer to that question is Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. To quote the article, A fair number of consumers in the United States are relying on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to help them with medical and health care issues. Polling 1,060 U.S. adults in February, PricewaterhouseCoopers found that a third use social media to find medical information, research and share symptoms, and offer their opinions about doctors, drugs, treatments, and heath plans. Overall, the same PriceWaterhouse poll suggests that 41% of those polled would use social media to choose a healthcare professional. With even higher numbers favoring social media among those 18-24 years of age, it appears that this trend will strengthen in the future. The message here is clear. Healthcare professionals need to begin using social media to position themselves in the healthcare marketplace. But an unplanned social media presence cab do more harm than good. A well-planned and coordinated marketing plan that includes a website, social media presence and an effective email marketing strategy can build your business in the coming years [...]

Syndication isn’t deadly but it also isn’t the MLS or IDX « FBS Blog by

By Michael Wurzer On February 1, 2012

This post is about the “sindication” arguments erupting over the web over the last few months and more heatedly the last few weeks. For background, check out: Rob Hahn, AgentGenius, GeekEstate, Jay Thompson, Kris Berg, and the video from the managing broker at ARG in San Diego that set off the recent web storm. Read them all, especially the comments.

What to make of all this debate? First, there’s not much new here. Brokers are competitors and will make independent decisions about where to advertise their listings. This is called syndication and it’s been happening since the beginning of real estate brokerage. Historically, the syndication channels were newspapers, home magazines, flyers, signs, etc. Now we have the web and sites like Zillow and Trulia. So, this debate is nothing new.

Why some WordPress Themes hurt your SEO. • Yoast

Why some WordPress Themes hurt your SEO. • Yoast by

Once again, I want to tell you to not blindly trust theme authors when they say their theme is SEO friendly. “SEO friendly” is just a label they put on their theme and since most of their customers don’t know what to look for to see if it’s actually true, yet know that it’s important, it helps “sell” themes…

Some themes have a better reputation in this regard. StudioPress first hired me and later on my good friend Greg Boser of BlueGlass, one of the best SEOs in the world, to make sure their themes were SEO friendly. They, unlike others, have earned the right to say their themes are SEO friendly. Others might have invested in the same way, but it’s hard to know for sure. Do you want to bet your site’s rankings on that?

Over-Optimization vs Optimization

by Joost de Valk on 19 March, 2012 at 16:10 39 comments

So Matt said something at SXSW last week about Google introducing a filter / penalty / change. As my inbox is already overflowing with emails from people asking whether they should stop optimizing their site and/or using my plugin, I thought I’d do a quick post. What Matt said was vague at best but he said one thing that leaves little room for speculation:

All those people doing, for lack of a better word, over optimization or overly SEO – versus those making great content and great site.
